Zoom G3 – The Digital Interface
We could discuss the cost of many pedals vs. the equivalent packed into the Zoom G3, but it seems commonplace now. At one time, manufacturers would jam as many sounds as they could think of into a new multi effects pedal, but half of them (or more), would be crap, and you would never use them again.
The Zoom G3 does have many sounds to offer (more than 100 built in effects), but most of them sound good. I’m not sure I would use it for a live gig, but with its USB interface capability and a multitude of effects, it would make a great home studio/computer interface unit.
Zoom G3 – Unique Features
I think the most unique feature of the Zoom G3 is its user interface. Any effect in the unit can displayed on one of 3 LCD screens, which make them look like an individual pedal. Each “pedal” has 3 tone knobs, and one stomp pedal associated with it, allowing you to turn effects on and off. This is a very similar idea to the Digitech IPB10, which uses the ipad as the interface. Wonder who came up with the idea first?
Additional features which add to the coolness of the Zoom G3 pedal are the tuner, 40 second looper, amp modeling and an on-board drum machine. These features, combined with the Zoom Edit and Share software, make this compact unit one of the best home use multi effects pedals on the market today.
